TEHRAN (AFP) Jul 26, 2003
Thirteen young Iranians, who went for a swim in a reservoir in southern Fars province, drowned late Friday after being swept away by strong currents whipped up by a storm, the official IRNA news agency said.

The 13 were among a group of about 20 youngsters returning from a tour who had stopped by the Dorudzan dam, in Marvdasht region, near Shiraz, to swim in the reservoir, the region's deputy governor, Atta Ghasemi, told IRNA.

The storms had already claimed two lives in the province in recent days. On Thursday, one person was drowned in flash floods. On Wednesday, a student died after being struck by lightning.
