Mild quake rocks northern Japan

A moderate earthquake shook the northern region of Japan's main island of Honshu Monday, measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major property damage.

The focus of the quake, which occured at 8:57 pm (1157 GMT), was located 10 kilometers (6.3 miles) below Yamagata prefecture, some 300 kilometersmiles) north of Tokyo, the state agency said.
