Hundreds evacuated in the Netherlands after breach found in dam
STEIN, Netherlands (AFP) Jan 27, 2004
Some 300 people were evacuated Tuesday in this southern Dutch town after a breach was discovered in a dyke along the Juliana canal, local officials said.

"There is a breach in one of the dykes," city hall spokeswoman Marlies Pijpers said. "Some 300 people living in a low-lying area of the town were evacuated but the rest of the town, which is in a high aread, is not in danger."

The Juliana canal, which streches along 34.5 kilometers (20 miles), is located in the province of Limburg.
