Quake shakes devastated city of Bam
TEHRAN (AFP) May 10, 2004
An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale Monday shook Bam, in southeastern Iran, where a powerful tremor killed more than 26,000 people on December 26, the official news agency IRNA said.

The tremor struck at 8:07 am (0337 GMT), and there were no reports of casualties.

On April 11, an earthquake also measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale hit the city without causing casualties.

Late last month Iranian authorities revised to 26,271 the number of dead from the December quake, which Bam Governor Ali Shafii had earlier said totalled 43,000.

During the 20th century, around 20 big quakes hit Iran, leaving more than 140,000 dead.
