Quake jolts southern Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted southern Japan early Thursday, the meteorological agency said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The quake occurred at 6:04 am (2104 GMT Wednesday), with its focus 50 kilometers (30 miles) below sea level off the coast of the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, the agency said.

There was no danger of tsunami tidal waves, it said.
