Four dead, one missing as Typhoon Mindulle hits the Philippines
MANILA (AFP) Jun 30, 2004
Typhoon Mindulle has left four people dead and one other missing in the Philippines, rescuers said Wednesday.

One person was killed in unspecified circumstances in the northern town of Aringay while three drowned in flash floods in the southern towns of Alamada and Maasim on Mindanao island, the civil defense office here said.

One other person was missing in flash floods in the southern town of Libungan.

Mindulle brushed past the northeastern Philippines on Tuesday before streaking toward southern Taiwan, but the typhoon induced heavy rain and high winds across the Southeast Asian archipelago, displacing more than 2,000 people.

Ferry services in the islands were mostly suspended as the authorities barred seacraft weighing less than 100 tons from putting to sea, coastguard chief Arthur Gosingan said.

Manila airport authorities said two domestic flights were cancelled Wednesday, but international flights were not affected.
