Quake rocks Taiwan
TAIPEI (AFP) Nov 10, 2004
Buildings swayed when an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan Wednesday, the Seismology Centre said.

The tremor hit at 10:48 pm (14:48 GMT), with the epicenter 77 kilometers (46 miles) southeast of Nanao, a coastal town in northeastern Ilan county. It originated 10 kilometers under the seabed.

No casualties were immediately reported.

A powerful quake with a magnitude of 6.7 hit the island Monday, waking residents from their sleep and triggering rock falls on to a highway.

Taiwan's worst tremor, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, struck in September 1999, leaving some 2,400 people dead.
