![]() TAIPEI (AFP) Nov 10, 2004 Buildings swayed when an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan Wednesday, the Seismology Centre said. The tremor hit at 10:48 pm (14:48 GMT), with the epicenter 77 kilometers (46 miles) southeast of Nanao, a coastal town in northeastern Ilan county. It originated 10 kilometers under the seabed. No casualties were immediately reported. A powerful quake with a magnitude of 6.7 hit the island Monday, waking residents from their sleep and triggering rock falls on to a highway. Taiwan's worst tremor, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, struck in September 1999, leaving some 2,400 people dead. All rights reserved. 2005 Agence France-Presse.
