Heavy snow brings avalanche risk in Swiss Alps
BERN (AFP) Dec 24, 2004
Heavy snowfall over the past few days has brought a heightened risk of avalanche in the Swiss Alps, notably in the north and centre of the country, the national avalanche service said on Friday.

The service, which is based in the Alpine resort of Davos, raised its avalanche alert to level three, which is described as a "particularly high" probability of snowslides, for slopes above 1,800 metres (5,900 feet).

It said the risk was highest on north-facing slopes in the Valais canton and in central Switzerland.
