SYDNEY (AFP) Dec 31, 2004
Australian Prime Minister John Howard will attend an international summit in Indonesia next week to help formulate a co-ordinated response to the Asian tsunami disaster, The Australian newspaper reported Saturday.

Indonesia said Friday that it would host the summit of global leaders to discuss tsunami devastation across Asia, take stock and plot how to overcome the world's worst natural disaster in living memory.

The conference in Jakarta on Thursday will gather heads of state from countries around the Indonesian ocean which have counted tens of thousands of deaths as seismic shockwaves buried their coastlines in water.

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is also listed to attend.
