Second big quake reported off Japan

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook the seabed off the east coast of Japan, the second "strong" quake in the region in two days, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported Tuesday.

The tremor occurred at 5:20 am Wednesday local time (2020 GMT Tuesday), according to the report.

Its epicenter was off Honshu island, about 295 kilometers (185 miles) southeast of Tokyo.

A quake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook northern Japan early Tuesday.
