Prague breaks 86 year record for warmest New Year

An 86-year-old local record for the warmest New Year's day was smashed in the Czech capital on Sunday when Prague thermometers registered 12.5 degrees Celsius (around 54 Fahrenheit) in the early afternoon, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute announced.

The reading was 0.1 degree Celsius higher than the previous record dating from 1921, it added.
