Eastern Canada finally gets snowfall after mild winter start MONTREAL, Jan 15 (AFP) Jan 16, 2007 After an unusually mild start to the winter season, eastern Canada was hit by the first snow storm of the season Monday, forcing several flight cancellations and causing road accidents. An ice storm in Ontario province and snow in neighboring Quebec snarled traffic and several weather-related road accidents took place in and around Toronto and Montreal, none of them fatal. The weather forced 50 flight cancellations and 80 delays at Toronto and Montreal airports. About 15 centimeters (six inches) of snow fell in Montreal. The wintery weather arrived after an unusually warm and snowless start of the season. Weather services reported record temperatures of around 10 degrees Celsius (40 Fahrenheit) in several parts of the country this month, when normally the thermometer shows below-freezing temperatures.
