Strong quake hits China Beijing (AFP) March 21, 2008 A powerful earthquake hit northwest China on Friday, the US Geological Survey said. The 7.2-magnitude quake struck at 6:33 a.m. (2233 GMT Thursday), 140 miles (230 kilometres) southeast of Hotan city in Xinjiang province at a depth of 23 miles, it said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
