Strong earthquake off coast of Mexico

A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale occurred early Wednesday off the coast of Mexico in the Gulf of California, with no immediate reports of damage, the US Geological Survey said on its website.

The earthquake struck at 0832 GMT, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), 89 kilometers (56 miles) northeast of Santa Rosalia, in Baja California, or 101 kilometers (63 miles) southwest of Hermosillo, on the Mexican mainland.
