Third victim recovered from German Alpine avalanche
TRAUNSTEIN, Germany (AFP) Jan 05, 2006
The third and final missing member of a snowshoe expedition was found dead in the German Alps Thursday, three days after an avalanche, authorities said.

The mountain patrol and the police found the body of the 25-year-old man on the Reiter Alm mountain near Bad Reichenhall, an Alpine spa resort where 15 people died this week when the roof of an ice rink collapsed under heavy snow.

They said the man was buried beneath three meters (10 feet) of snow. The bodies of his 23-year-old brother and the brother's 19-year-old fiancee were recovered Monday, the day of the avalanche.

The three belonged to a 12-member snowshoe touring group, nine of whom survived by fighting their way out of the snow.

The search for the third victim was suspended Monday evening due to fears of a further avalanche and only resumed Thursday morning.

Four skiers and two mountain climbers died in the French Alps last weekend.
