Snow, winds cause traffic chaos and power outages in Balkan countries Belgrade, Nov 22 (AFP) Nov 22, 2024 Balkan countries faced traffic disruptions and electricity outages due to heavy snowstorms and winds on Friday. Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia were hit by strong blizzards that slowed down travelling and cancelled flights ahead of the weekend. More than 10,000 households were left without electricity in western Serbia, Radio Television Serbia reported. The Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia issued an orange alarm for possible dangerous weather events and warned that the snowfall would continue over night. Serbia's flag carrier Air Serbia said that unfavourable weather conditions "will influence the traffic of the national air company and will provoke delays and potential cancellations of flights". Meanwhile in Bosnia, many flights to and from the Sarajevo airport have been cancelled. The snow also resulted in road closures across the country. According to Croatian auto club, traffic was blocked or slowed down on several main roads prompting a ban on freight vehicles. |
