Shallow 5.6 quake hits El Salvador, no casualties reported San Salvador, Dec 9 (AFP) Dec 09, 2024 A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck El Salvador on Sunday night, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said, although local authorities reported no immediate casualties or damage. The tremor was registered at 9:50 pm (0350 GMT Monday) with an epicenter on the coastline 95 miles (152 kilometers) southeast of the capital San Salvador. The quake hit with a shallow depth of just 15.4 kilometers according to the USGS. It was also felt in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa. The national civil protection agency said it was "monitoring" different areas of the country, but did not immediately report any emergencies. |
