Grizzly Bears Move Into Polar Bear Habitat In Canada
New York NY (SPX) Feb 24, 2010
Biologists affiliated with the American Museum of Natural History and City College of the City University of New York have found that grizzly bears are roaming into what was traditionally thought of as polar bear habitat-and into the Canadian province of Manitoba, where they are officially listed as extirpated. The preliminary data was recently published in Canadian Field Naturalist and shows that sightings of Ursus arctos horribilis in Canada's Wapusk National Park are recent and appear to be inc ... read more

Governments Misjudging Scale Of CO2 Emissions
Manchester UK (SPX) Feb 24, 2010
Policy makers in Europe and United States are markedly underestimating the changes needed to mitigate CO2 emission required to prevent dangerous climate change because they work in 'silos', according to pioneering research. Dr Sebastian Carney, from The University of Manchester, discovered that the lack of communication between government departments, NGOs and other authorities has resulte ... more

Improving Snowfall Forecasting
Salt Lake City UT (SPX) Feb 24, 2010
University of Utah scientists developed an easier way for meteorologists to predict snowfall amounts and density - fluffy powder or wet cement. The method has been adopted by the National Weather Service for use throughout Utah - and could be adjusted for use anywhere. Dust From Distant Lands Affect Climate And Health
Miami FL (SPX) Feb 24, 2010

Whaling plan would OK hunts but seek fewer kills
Tokyo (AFP) Feb 23, 2010
The global body that regulates whaling has proposed giving the green light to Japan to keep hunting the sea mammals in return for reducing the number of animals killed. Greenpeace and the World Wide Fund for Nature harshly condemned the draft plan which aims to unlock stalled talks when the 85-nation International Whaling Commission (IWC) meets next month in Florida. While Greenpeace called it "a dangerous throwback to the 20th century when whales were hunted to near extinction", the WWF said it ... read more
