Dome to capture oil from disaster well as slick spreads

Winds pushed a giant oil slick towards fragile wetlands on the US coast Tuesday as efforts intensified to bottle up a ruptured oil well in the Gulf of Mexico causing the growing environmental disaster. Under pressure energy giant BP said it had prepared the first of three giant domes to collect oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico and channel it into a waiting tanker. More than 2,000 babies born to China quake mothers: report

More than 2,000 babies have been born in China to women who lost their children in a 2008 earthquake thanks to a government programme that includes artificial insemination, state media said Wednesday. A total of 3,140 women had become pregnant under the programme, which also provided free medical treatment, with 2,106 giving birth so far, the Global Times said, quoting government figures. ... more

Malaysia announced Tuesday it aims to build its first nuclear power plant by 2021, saying it is the only solution to the country's growing energy needs. "The cabinet has approved in principle. Yes, we are going nuclear. For our ministry, the countdown has begun," said Peter Chin, minister for energy, green technology and water. "We need a lead time of 10 years.
