Study: Aircraft can produce precipitation Boulder, Colo. (UPI) Jun 14, 2010 A U.S. study has shown aircraft climbing or descending under certain conditions can cause snow or rain to develop and fall to the ground. Turboprop and jet aircraft inadvertently seed mid-level clouds, leaving behind odd-shaped holes or channels in the clouds, said Andrew Heymsfield of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which led the study.
