UK backs deep-sea mining moratorium to protect oceans

Britain on Monday backed international efforts to temporarily suspend the awarding of deep-sea licences for mineral exploration in order to boost marine biodiversity and protect the world's oceans. The announcement was timed to coincide with the first day of negotiations of the Jamaica-based International Seabed Authority (ISA), an intergovernmental body tasked with protecting the seabed.
