Four held for Rwandan ex-army chief shooting in S.Africa Johannesburg (AFP) June 21, 2010 South African police said Monday four men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Rwanda's exiled former army chief Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa at the weekend. "So far four men have been arrested, our investigation is still ongoing," police spokesman Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said. He said the suspects were arrested in different places around Johannesburg. Nyamwasa was shot in the stomach as he was entering his home in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Nyamwasa's wife, Rosette, who was with him in the car during the shooting, believes the shooting was an attempted assassination. He is recovering in intensive care at the private Morningside Clinic. Nyamwasa fled to South Africa in February after abandoning his post as Rwanda's envoy to India. The Rwandan government has accused him, and former army colonel Patrick Karegeya, of masterminding grenade attacks earlier this year in the run-up to presidential elections in August.
