Hurricane Emilia weakens in Pacific
by Staff Writers
Washington (AFP) July 10, 2012

Hurricane Emilia weakened to a category three storm over the Pacific on Tuesday, and was expected to continue to lose punch, forecasters said.

At 2100 GMT on Tuesday, the storm was churning about 1,110 kilometres (690 miles) off the southern tip of Baja California, packing top winds of 205 kilometers per hour (125 miles per hour) as it moved west-northwest.

"Slow weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours," said a statement from the National Hurricane Center, adding there were no immediate threats to land.

Elsewhere in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Daniel continued to weaken about 2,020 kilometers (1,255 miles) east of Hilo, Hawaii, and could become a post-tropical remnant low by Thursday, the NHC added.
