Kadhafi defends Chinese role in Africa Paris (AFP) Dec 11, 2007 Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi on Tuesday defended Beijing's growing influence in Africa, saying China was helping build a "multipolar" world. "China arrived gently in Africa, nothing like the brutality of the United States," Kadhafi said, arguing that "China does not seek to install military bases in Africa or to put political regimes in place." He said growing Chinese influence in resource-rich Africa, together with the expansion of the European Union, was creating a new balance of world power, in a speech at the Paris Ritz during a five-day visit to the French capital.
