Terra Daily covers Earth systems: climate, environment, natural hazards, oceans, ice, water and the changes reshaping the planet. This page describes the editorial standards that apply to everything we publish.
Our standards
Source verification. Terra Daily cites primary sources where possible: peer-reviewed papers, agency and company announcements, official data and reports, and reporting from established wire services. Important factual claims are supportable and the sources that matter are linked. We say that we interviewed, contacted or investigated something only when we did.
Scientific accuracy. We avoid sensational framing of science stories. Discoveries are presented within the context of existing research, not as breakthroughs they aren’t. Speculation is labelled as such.
Editorial independence. Editorial decisions are made independently of advertising and partnership relationships. Sponsored content, where it appears, is clearly labelled. Where an article contains an affiliate link, or recommends a product or service connected to Brown Brothers Media, its founders, its staff or their families, that relationship is disclosed in the article itself, near the recommendation, not only on this page.
Corrections. We correct errors. Material corrections and substantial revisions carry a dated note on the article; minor fixes that do not change what readers were told may be made without one. An article whose central premise cannot stand is withdrawn, and where appropriate a notice remains at its address. Corrections can be sent to [email protected].
How we produce content
Terra Daily’s editorial team follows climate science, environmental research, hazard monitoring and the agencies and institutions that study the Earth for stories worth covering. Articles go through editorial review before publication, with attention to source attribution and technical accuracy.
Use of AI tools
AI tools are a substantial part of how Terra Daily is produced. They help find and organise sources, draft, edit, check facts and links, and audit published work, and they may produce much of an initial draft. Using these tools does not reduce our responsibility for what we publish.
Every article is reviewed and approved by a member of our team before it goes live. Where a named editor appears on an article, that is the person who performed the final review. The editors responsible for this work, along with their backgrounds, are listed on our Masthead.
Editorial responsibility for accuracy rests with Terra Daily.
We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or present AI-generated content as first-hand reporting from real individuals.
Contributor identity
A named byline on Terra Daily identifies a real person who has approved publication under their name; any personal experiences or credentials attributed to that person are theirs and approved by them. An editorial-team byline identifies a collective newsroom process, not a fictional individual, and does not claim personal experiences, interviews or credentials. Before May 2026, some publications in the Brown Brothers Media network published articles under contributor bylines that did not identify real people, and some of those biographies included credentials that were not real. That should not have happened. Those bylines were retired in May 2026; the articles involved have been withdrawn, corrected, or reassigned to an editorial-team byline with a dated note, and that review is ongoing. Editorial responsibility for everything published here rests with Terra Daily. (Updated 17 September 2026.)
